Can the reserves get a result? Woodrow hat-trick?

Burton Albion vs. Luton town

Tree-nil to the luton town

A game that kicked into life 1 minute after the predictor hatters arrived later than planned and were escorted to their VIP (disabled) seats. Glorious Green kits and a tree planted for every goal scored wearing the new leaf-inspired kit ,saw the Hatters romp to a 3-0 win at the expense of a very mediocre Burton side.  "We're gonna win tree-nil", "we've got more trees than you", "we want tree" and a few other songs helped create a humorous atmosphere for the away contingent anyway!

The result wasn't really ever in doubt after the first goal - the Hatters looking comfortable enough for the majority of the game, with Keeley doing well when it mattered. Finally it came home for Lasse - a deflected shot, that the goalkeeper seemed to dive over, gave the big lad a deserved goal. For such a big guy, we don't really utilise his height, maybe heading isn't his thing. A bergkamp-esque turn in the penalty area in the 2nd half perhaps belying his silky skills (although I am not entirely sure he knows what he is doing - there is a touch of the Showumni's about him). His surging run forward to assist the 3rd goal for Nelson was reminiscent of a certain Eli at his prime (remember him?) - and the Luton contingent seemed pleased with his efforts, singing his name, which I am sure will do his confidence the power of good.

Alli did get in their heads with a fine strike for 2-0 - the ball stays hit when he shoots - and generally his play is exciting, although sometimes frustrating when not passing it when there's the opportunity to. Playing such attacking players as wing-backs only works if the opposition can't muster meaningful attacks - I think Alli and Kodua would both be better playing higher up the pitch in a different formation.

Talking of formations, Bloomfield stuck with 3 at the back, making the bold decision to drop Naismith, whilst Saville and Clark rotated with Nelson, who had one of his best games, (hitting the post in the first half before netting the 3rd in the 2nd half) supporting Nordas and Yates up front.

Jury is still out on Yates.  Hopefully he will find his scoring boots soon. Walsh came on to provide some decent control in midfield - and all in all it was an easy and welcome win for the erm green army,,,  It's not a bad kit.  But it could have been white with green leaves and everyone would have been happy.  Maybe.  But a winning kit it is - and it does look better than that blue effort we have as a 2nd kit.

Apparently there's a few more ins and outs deals to be concluded by 7pm on Monday - who will follow Chong out of the club? Looking at who remains, the overhaul is pretty extensive and it very much appears that 3rd tier football isn't for everyone...including the ever-injured Baptiste who will miss the season now with an ACL. To build a team from the ashes of the previous 2 seasons is going to be some undertaking - and it will be interesting to see what targets the management team will land. Just please don't take a risk on any more injury prone players!!

prediction summary so far:

2 points each for Nick, Alex, James and Kier. and 1 for Sven... who would have thought the Hatters would score 3 away from home?! Well, none of us did - but it was a welcome victory nevertheless.  The top 3 of Alex, Kier and Nick maintain their positions, Nick puling 2 points clear of ken in 4th, with a little distance opening up from 15 points in 1st, to 2 points in 9th.  Cup/trophy game next up - and a free banker - who will make it count?!

Let's hear from the gaffer:

"well, back to winning ways - even if we had to be camouflaged to  manage it!"
